As you may already know, UCU (the lecturers' union) has voted in favour of strike action on the 24th March 2011. MUSU are writing to Middlesex University students to let them know how the strike may affect them and also to outline MUSU's position on it.
UCU are striking over pensions, as part of a wider campaign over pay and cuts. UCU members will be picketing at Middlesex on the day of the strike.
Why MUSU supports the strike:
MUSU fully supports the UCU strike at Middlesex as it relates to cuts which will directly affect students, and also as we believe that lecturers should receive a fair pension. We are encouraging students not to cross picket lines and to stage a walkout. The cuts which UCU are striking over are part of the wider education cuts which students have been protesting against; we feel it is crucial that lecturers and students stand together against these.
How this affects you:
We strongly encourage all students to support the strike by not entering any campus on the 24th March. MUSU officers will not be available on this day and our offices will be closed. We also encourage everyone to stand alongside academic staff on the picket line.
Please contact MUSU or your lecturers for more information.
